Sun sets the scene for the Winter Festival Show Date13/12/05
People in NewcastleGateshead are being encouraged to take a break
from the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations this week
to enjoy the natural beauty of their surroundings at the Sunset
Show.
Part of NewcastleGatesheads Winter Festival, the Sunset
Show invites passers-by to sit and enjoy sunsets over the cityscape
at a number of unusual and contrasting locations - from the much-photographed
quayside view of the River Tyne and its iconic bridges, to the
surprising rooftop outlook from the top of Manors Car Park.
Deck chairs and hot drinks will be provided from 3pm each evening
from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 at four different locations
and photography enthusiasts in particular are encouraged to go
along and capture the moment.
Sunset Show locations (from 3pm rain or shine):
Wednesday 14th December Newcastle Quayside (east of Pitcher
and Piano and Tyne Leisure Line landing stage)
Thursday 15th December Angel of the North, Gateshead
Friday 16th December Manors Car Park (top level)
Saturday 17th December Strawberry Place (opposite St James
Park, beside the Strawberry pub)
Stella Hall, Creative Director at NewcastleGateshead Initiative,
said: The Sunset Show very simply celebrates the beauty
of the sunset over NewcastleGateshead. It fits very well with
the theme of the Winter Festival which is all about revealing
the area in a new light. Were encouraging people to really
look again at their city and appreciate what it has to offer.
The 2005 NewcastleGateshead Winter Festival has been devised
by Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council and destination marketing
agency NewcastleGateshead Initiative. It will take place throughout
December with a mixture of traditional events such as ice rinks,
Christmas markets, Christmas light displays and community based
events, plus Reveal - a programme by UZ Events designed
to animate and illuminate the areas iconic architecture
through art, entertainment and spectacular pyrotechnics.
