The Copthorne Hotel Newcastle, one of the region's most prestigious
hotels, is flying the flag for NewcastleGateshead¹s Capital
of Culture bid on the international stage after being officially
named as Millennium & ; Copthorne Hotels plc Hotel of the
Year 2002.
The highly acclaimed title was announced by Group Chief Executive
John Wilson and Chief Operating Officer Tony Potter at a recent
presentation ceremony in London.
This latest accolade compliments previous awards received by
the Copthorne Hotel Newcastle including being named as one of
the Group¹s top five performing hotels in 2002, winning Northumbrian
Tourist Board¹s Hotel of the Year (50 bedrooms) as part of
the Pride of Northumbria awards, and more recently, being named
as the RAC's 'Hotel Group of the Year' for Millennium &
Copthorne Hotels plc.
Judged on high standards of customer service, operational procedures
and on-site facilities, an awarding committee remarked upon how
the hotel had consistently strived to create new, higher standards
of hospitality which had been recognised by the industry, and
how the Copthorne Hotel Newcastle had made many significant and
outstanding achievements over the past year or so, setting a fine
example within Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc.
Stephen Deakin, General Manager of the Copthorne Hotel Newcastle
commented, "To be named as Millennium & Copthorne
Hotels plc Hotel of the Year is a great honour and achievement,
especially when considering the locations and capacity of some
of our sister hotels. It is a huge credit to the hard work and
dedication of all colleagues as we continually aim to set new,
higher standards of customer service for all our guests, so it
is hugely satisfying when they are all recognised in this way."
The Hotel of the Year award further supports NewcastleGateshead¹s
bid for Capital of Culture status by once again demonstrating
that local organisations can compete and succeed globally, and
in doing so, putting the North East in the international spotlight.
Paul Collard, Head of Programme Development Newcastle Gateshead
Initiative, which is spearheading the region¹s
bid, added, "This is a great achievement for the Copthorne
Hotel Newcastle and indeed NewcastleGateshead, and this further
demonstrates the ability of the region to deliver a high quality
service and confirms our belief that we create the best European
Capital of Culture experience in the UK for visitors in 2008."
