Tall Ships Races 2005

The Tall Ships Races are back in Newcastle and Gateshead
on the 25th to the 28th of July.
This is the third time the Tall Ships Races have been to
Newcastle. The first was in 1986 the second was 1993 where
a new record was set for holding the biggest Tall Ships
Race ever. This year looks set to be even bigger with vessels
berthed on both sides of the Tyne Newcastle and Gateshead

Over 100 Tall Ships from all over the world such as Bulgaria,
France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, Oman,
Poland, Portugal and Romania will settle on the Tyne for what
will be four spectacular days.
1 Million people are expected to visit Newcastle and Gateshead
during the four days the ships are docked many of which will be
tourists that`ll help build the regions international profile.
The first Tall Ships Race took place in 1956 between Torbay and
Lisbon. It was Britain that won the race with the ship Moyana.
Sadly though the on it`s journey back to Southampton the ship
sank in a storm thankfully all crew members survived and even
the trophy was rescued.
